Gizem Karaali is originally from Istanbul, Turkey, where she graduated with undergraduate degrees in electrical engineering and mathematics. She received her PhD in mathematics from the University of California Berkeley. She is currently professor of mathematics at Pomona College, which, together with her editorial roles at the Journal of Humanistic Mathematics, the Mathematical Intelligencer, and Numeracy, keeps her busy. Her poetry in English has so far only appeared in poetry readings, anthologies, and periodicals directed toward mathematical audiences. Gizem’s most recent book is 'Mathematics and Social Justice: Resources for the College Classroom,' coedited with Lily S. Khadjavi.
