WHAT WE’RE UP TO

We’re thrilled to be in Los Angeles this March! We hope you’ll stop by our booth (#835) for contributor book signings and good conversation. We also have merch for sale for your Adroit-repping needs, including some brand-new dad hats.

Meanwhile, we’d love to share more about what we’re up to this year!

Opening Minds Through Mentorship

For the past 11 years, The Adroit Journal has hosted free or low-cost mentorship programs for high school poets, fiction writers, and creative nonfiction writers interested in building sustained relationships with creative peers and learning from established writers.

Our mentorship alums have gone on to publish books, land in such anthologies as Best American Poetry, Best New Poets, and Best of the Net, and—most importantly—to write work that interrogates and inspires.

Four New Issues Per Year

You’re in for a treat each January, April, August, and October—we share four new issues of poetry, fiction, creative nonfiction, art, interviews, reviews, and (most recently) translations each year. 100% online, 100% free.

Recognizing Student Excellence

Each year, we host the Adroit Prizes for Poetry & Prose to recognize two students of secondary or undergraduate status. We’re fortunate to receive exceptional work from emerging writers in high school and college, and the best of the best will be recognized by the Adroit Prizes.

The 2024 Adroit Prize for Poetry was selected by Ocean Vuong and the 2024 Adroit Prize for Prose was selected by Kaveh Akbar. Previous judges include Carl Phillips, Jericho Brown, Kristen Arnett, Franny Choi, Jamel Brinkley, Alex Dimitrov, Rachel Heng, Safiya Sinclair, Garth Greenwell, and many more.

Submissions for the 2025 Adroit Prizes will run from April 1st to May 1st!
