Cerena Parkinson is a sixteen-year-old Jamaican American Harlemite who attends Wadleigh High School for the Performing and Visual Arts. Hailing from the illustrious and vibrant village of Crown Heights in Brooklyn New York, Parkinson uses her work in the active preservation of black colloquial and folk culture. Continuously she explores the bountiful aspects of her culture, identity and purpose as an Afro Caribbean woman in America. In August of 2019, Cerena gave back to the Bustamanate Children’s Hospital in her mother’s Native Parish of Kingston Jamaica, providing free art supplies and creative sessions to each young patient in the hospital. Cerena is recognized as a recipient of the Haney Medal in Art,aA New York regional Gold Medalist in the NAACP ACT-So competition and a National Finalist in the 2019 Detroit ACT-So Competition.
