“The Healthier Folk” by Isabella Vella

“June and July” by Isabella Vella

Isabella Vella is a student currently working at Etobicoke School of the Arts in Toronto. Her illustrations often depict friends amidst a wealth of mismatched objects and scenery specific to modern young adult life. Working with both graphite and acrylic, she paints using vibrant colours and patterns inspired by her collections of pottery, sewing materials, and handkerchiefs; all which slip their way into her work in different ways. She works on Japanese Kozo and Mitsumata papers which form a balance between the graphite and paint as well as provide flexibility when used. She is attracted to this paper because of its soft translucency and deceptive strength, which complement the subject matter of the work.
